Nashville Area TBR Institutions
Co-Sponsoring E-Waste Recycling Event
May 14-16
The Tennessee Board of Regents is proud to announce that its Nashville area institutions--Austin Peay State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Tech University, Volunteer State Community College, and the Tennessee Technology Center at Nashville--are co-sponsoring an E-Waste Recycling Event at LP Field in Nashville during May.
On Thursday, May 14th and Friday, May 15th, trucks will be available for colleges, K-12 schools, government agencies, local businesses and non-profit organizations to bring electronic equipment in for recycling. Saturday May 16th will be targeted for the general public, although materials will be accepted any time during the event. The trucks will be in the parking lot at LP Field, where the Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University TIgers play football. LP Field is located at 1 Titans Way between exits 48 and 49 off of I-24. The stadium is easily accessible from either exit. The recycling drop-off area is in Parking Lot D.
Groups planning to drop off e-waste should register in advance for a drop-off date at http://tennessee.poweron.com/p/register. The site also includes comprehensive details on the event.
There is no cost for the recycling service and no limit to the amount of items that can be dropped off. Professional movers will be at the site to handle unloading the equipment. All recycled items including hard drives will be ground down to confetti-like material to ensure information security and prior to being recycled.
Items that can be recycled include: CPUs, all-in-one computer systems, laptop/notebook computers, televisions, cameras, printers, computer mice, copiers, PDAs, keyboards, computer monitors, servers, speakers, hubs, audio devices, FAX machines, cell phones/pagers, wires and cables, routers and switches.
Similar events on the same dates are being hosted by University of Tennesse, the University of Memphis, and East Tennessee State University. Recycling services are courtesy of Apple.
Materials will be sealed and secured on trucks and then transported to a recycling center in LaVergne, TN. No materials will be shipped overseas where deplorable working conditions with hazardous chemicals are used to extract metals. Items are run through a mechanical shredder, which will guarantee that none of the data on any device is ever recoverable. It is destroyed into confetti-sized pieces, and processed / recycled from there.
