| Manning said, “We are very pleased that we found the best candidate for the Motlow presidency right there on the campus. Dr. Walker has strong support among students, faculty, administrators and the community, as well as in the presidential search advisory committee. We expect him to be a worthy successor to Dr. Frank Glass. I particularly want to thank the members of the search committee, ably chaired by Regent Stanley Rogers, for their hard work and thoughtful consideration of the needs of the college.” |

The Tennessee Board of Regents approved Walker’s nomination in a special session by conference call on October 14. Walker will assume his duties on January 3, 2003, just after the retirement of A. Frank Glass, who has been Motlow’s president since 1987.
The Tennessee Board of Regents is the nation’s
sixth largest higher education system, governing 45 post-secondary educational
institutions. The TBR system
includes six universities, 13 two-year colleges and 26 technology centers,
providing programs in 90 of Tennessee’s 95 counties to over 180,000 students.
