Wade McCamey Named President of
Roane State Community College

Experience in TBR System, Skill in Leading Faculty Cited

Nashville, Tennessee, October 8, 2001Chancellor Charles Manning of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) will recommend board approval at tomorrow’s TBR meeting of Dr. Wade McCamey as the new president of Roane State Community College.  Dr. McCamey has been vice president for academic affairs at Walters State Community College since 1997; he joined the Walters State faculty in 1981 as Director of Evening and Off-Campus Instruction.  Dr. McCamey, who received his doctorate in education administration from East Tennessee State University in 1976, was a high school principal for four years and superintendent of Greene County schools from 1988-1992.  If McCamey’s nomination is approved by the Board of Regents, he is expected to begin his work at Roane State next week.

In deciding to recommend McCamey, Manning said, “While we had a good field of candidates, I felt that Wade McCamey was the best fit for Roane State at this time.  He will bring a number of strengths to the position of president.  Dr. McCamey combines extensive experience in and knowledge of the TBR system with a substantial background in K-12 education, an increasingly important connection for our system if we are to succeed in increasing Tennessee’s education levels.  He also has a strong reputation for academic leadership with the faculty at Walters State, and I am sure he will bring those skills to bear in his new position at Roane State.”

Roane State Community College serves an eight-county area in East Tennessee including Roane, Anderson, Cumberland, Scott, Loudon, Campbell, Fentress and Morgan Counties. In addition to these counties, Roane State’s Health Science service area also includes Knox and Blount Counties.  Roane State’s main campus is in Harriman.  The full-time equivalent enrollment for fall 2001 is 3,647, a 5% increase over fall 2000.

The Tennessee Board of Regents is the nation’s sixth largest higher education system, governing 45 post-secondary educational institutions.  The TBR system includes six universities, 13 two-year colleges and 26 technology centers, providing programs to over 180,000 students in 90 of Tennessee’s 95 counties.
