The Tennessee Board of Regents approved the selection of Jerry Young as the new director for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Crossville and Arrita Summers as the new leader for the TCAT - Dickson.

The Board convened a special called meeting at 1 p.m. CST Nov. 25 to act upon a recommendation to approve the two new college directors. 

Throughout the spring, summer and early fall, paleontologists, students and volunteers added significantly to the collection of fossils from previous dig seasons and also used new methods to dig out small, fragile fossil material.

Students from Tennessee State University recently had the opportunity to hunker down with other like-minded “techies” and programmers from throughout the city to build products, share coding skills and participate in real-world programing exercises.

The Tennessee Board of Regents has scheduled three committee meetings and a special called meeting of the Board for Tuesday, Nov. 25.

The Board will convene in a special called meeting at 1 p.m. CST to briefly receive and act upon a recommendation to name new directors for the Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology at Crossville and at Dickson.

Committee meetings scheduled for the same day include the Audit Committee, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the Ad Hoc Committee on Committees. The Committee Chairs meeting will convene following the Board’s action in the afternoon.

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) recently held its 45th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, November 8 at the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium on the Dyersburg campus.

Tennessee State University now has a variety of services specifically designed to help veterans succeed in college while transitioning from military life to civilian life.

The University has been designated a Certified Vets Campus, which designation comes on the heels of the formation of a TSU Student Veterans Association.

The publication announced its Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings this week as the nation celebrates Veterans Day. In their fifth year, the rankings factor in a comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.

The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship supports technical education and promotes careers in technical areas of work. Grainger is an Illinois-based distributor of facilities maintenance supplies. Upon graduating, recipients also receive $2,500 worth of Grainger hand tools, each with a lifetime replacement guarantee.

Representatives of universities and colleges in the Tennessee Board of Regents system recently participated in a two-day summit to discuss how higher education institutions can better serve students with physical impairments.

Three former college roommates, who dreamed up their moving business idea while still in school at TSU, only had a rented truck and the “grandiose” dream to build a successful moving company like no other. They have turned their three-man moving company into a thriving business with an expected revenue projection of $1.6 million by the end of the next business cycle.
