High Demand for Officers
Trained corrections officers are in high demand in Tennessee, with salaries at state facilities starting at more than $44,000. Some applicants are eligible for hiring bonuses as well. You can gain the skills and knowledge for a career in corrections at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology in just eight months.
Multiple Career Paths
Corrections officer training can lead to many potential careers in law enforcement (with additional training), such as parole officer, warden, chief of security, fugitive apprehension and more. The Corrections Officer program covers such fundamentals as inmate processing, maintaining order in the jail and invoking disciplinary measures when necessary. Graduates also receive training in emergency procedures, mental health and first aid, defensive tactics and use of force, ethics and legal issues, and investigations.
Attend Tuition-Free
With programs like Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect and the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant, you can likely attend tuition-free.
Dual Enrollment for High School Students
If you’re looking to make a difference in your community, but not yet eligible to apply to the police academy due to age restrictions, consider enrolling in a corrections officer dual enrollment training program.
