Three TTU trumpet students win international awards

Three Tennessee Tech University trumpet students have been awarded scholarships by the International Trumpet Guild to attend the group’s annual conference.

Seniors Alex Wilborn, of Baxter; Stephen Arnold, of Mount Carmel and Emery Herrmann, of White House, each won one of 10 scholarships for undergraduate students.

This is the second year in a row Wilborn and Arnold won the highly competitive scholarships.

“This is a particularly significant accomplishment when you consider that in the last two years, five of the 20 International Trumpet Guild conference awards went to TTU trumpet majors,” said TTU trumpet professor Charles Decker. “These students exemplify the musicianship of our dedicated music majors and demonstrate their competitive capabilities.”

A panel of university trumpet professors review solo performance recordings of each scholarship applicant.

The guild’s conference was last month in Ohio. It has more than 7,000 professional and student members around the world.
