Jackson State Community College athletics takes new flight as Green Jays

Jackson State Community College revealed its new athletic identity as the Green Jays Tuesday (Aug. 21, 2018) in an event open to the employees and the community. The newly refinished gym floor was revealed to spectators eagerly awaiting the new identity.

“From the very beginning we’ve been the Generals,” said Steve Cornelison, JSCC director of athletics and student activities. “At the time this mascot embodied our fighting spirit and continued with us as we built the institution and our athletic program from the ground up.”

Jackson State Community College holds information sessions on its new criminal justice degree

People working in law enforcement and criminal justice fields seeking to advance their careers or students wanting to enter those fields quickly can take advantage of the new associate of applied science degree in criminal justice at Jackson State Community College.

The new two-year degree program launches this fall.

Jackson State Community College and UT Martin to host open house

UT Martin’s Jackson Center and Jackson State Community College will host an open house event on Tuesday, April 17. The event will be held at JSCC’s McWherter Center between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on that day.

In December, UT Martin’s Jackson Center moved from its location on the 45 By-pass to Jackson State’s McWherter Center. The two institutions had entered into an articulation agreement in the fall which ensured a seamless transfer from JSCC to UTM.

West Tennessee students will tour area facilities for manufacturing career days

Students from 22 high schools will visit 15 area companies Oct. 6 & 20 to learn about careers in a growing industry that expects 2 million job openings over the next decade. Co-sponsored locally by Jackson State Community College and the Jackson Chamber, Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing held annually.

Jackson State Community College celebrating 50 years of service to students, region

The beginning of the fall semester 2017 marks 50 years since classes were first offered on the Jackson State Community College campus. To commemorate this milestone, the college is hosting a reception in the Student Center on its main campus September 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

“This will be a time to focus on the tremendous impact that the college has had in the lives of our students as well as in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Allana Hamilton, JSCC president. “We look forward to seeing former students, faculty and staff at this momentous event in our history.”
