The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold two open committee meetings via telephone on Monday, March 26.

The Personnel and Compensation Committee will meet at 1 p.m. CDT to consider a compensation proposal submitted by Austin Peay State University and any other business brought before the committee.

Jerry Faulkner is expected to be named the next president to lead Volunteer State Community College pending approval by the Tennessee Board of Regents on March 21.

The Board will meet via telephone at 10:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday, March 21, to consider TBR Chancellor John Morgan’s recommendation of Faulkner, who will replace Bruce Scism, Vol State’s interim president.

If approved, Faulkner will arrange a smooth transition from Cleveland State Community College, where he currently serves as vice president for Academic Affairs. A specific date has not yet been set.

The Tennessee Board of Regents canceled its Committee on Finance and Business Operations meeting previously scheduled for March 13. The meeting will be rescheduled at a later date.The other two open committee meetings scheduled for March 13 – Audit Committee and Committee Chairs – will meet as scheduled at the TBR central office in Nashville.The Audit Committee meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT, and the Committee Chairs will meet at 12:45 p.m. Agendas for both meetings are available online at www.tbr.edu.

The Tennessee Board of Regents will hold a telephonic meeting beginning at 3 p.m. CST on Thursday, Feb. 23, to review and act upon a recommendation to appoint Lynn Kreider as the director of the Tennessee Technology Center in Murfreesboro.Kreider is the former president at Colby Community College in Kansas. He holds a doctorate in education and a Master of Science degree from Wilmington University.

College students use tech tools for everything from ordering pizza to playing games. Now the same technology software is being used to help them decide which courses will help them graduate faster, which courses will result in better grades, and even what subject to choose for a major.The technology, developed by Austin Peay State University’s provost Tristan Denley, uses data to first identify the course requirements for the student’s major, then find the classes in which the student is most likely to perform well.

The three finalists for the presidency of Volunteer State Community College will participate in interviews and campus forums Feb. 28 through March 2. The finalists, Bonny Copenhaver, provost of Motlow State Community College; Jerry Faulkner, vice president for Academic Affairs at Cleveland State Community College; and Michael McDonald, State Representative - 44th District, will each interview with the Presidential Search Advisory Committee on Wednesday, Feb. 29.The committee interviews will begin with Faulkner at 1:15 p.m. CST, Copenhaver at 2:45 p.m. and McDonald at 4:15 p.m.

The Search Advisory Committee members for a new president of Tennessee Technological University have been selected and will meet for the first time in February following a public forum about the search process.

The advisory committee will meet Friday, Feb. 17, in the TTU University Center MultiPurpose Room. The meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m. CST. Campus and community members are also invited to an open forum to discuss the search process for the new president from 11 a.m. – noon in the same location.

Governor Haslam presented his FY 2012-13 budget recommendations to the General Assembly on Jan. 30. Below is a summary of some items pertinent to Tennessee Board of Regents institutions.Operating Funds - Recurring• A recurring state funding reduction of $12.1 million is recommended, equal to 2.1% of current state appropriations. This reduction is significantly less than the 5% reduction that higher education institutions were notified might be possible in Fall 2011.

The search advisory committee for a new president of Volunteer State Community College will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 1, beginning at 12:45 p.m. CST in the Rochelle Center of Vol State’s Thigpen Library. It’s time to emphasize an important point about public higher education in Tennessee: While price is going up, cost has gone down.

The search advisory committee for a new president of Volunteer State Community College will meet again on Wednesday, Jan. 11 beginning at 12:45 p.m. CST in the Thigpen Library of Vol State’s Rochelle Center. The committee, which met for the first time in December to receive applications and outline the search process, will begin narrowing the list of candidates to a smaller group, around 10-15 first-round finalists. As of Jan.

Tennessee State University’s accreditation was unconditionally reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges today.

The presidential search advisory committee for a new president of Volunteer State Community College has been selected and will meet for the first time Thursday, Dec. 15.

The meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m. CST in the Thigpen Library of the Rochelle Center on the Vol State campus.

Vol State’s previous president, Warren Nichols, left in October to take the position as vice chancellor for the TBR’s new Community College System. Bruce Scism, Vol State’s vice president of Academic Affairs, was selected to serve as interim president until a permanent president is hired.

The Tennessee Board of Regents will meet in regular quarterly session Thursday, Dec. 8, at the TBR Office in Nashville. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the Genesco Training Center.

The Board will hear reports from and approve minutes of the Audit Committee, Ad-Hoc Committee on Conflict of Interest and Ad-Hoc Committee on Capital Outlay and Capital Maintenance.

Action items include approval of the October revised budget, institutional student disciplinary policies, system-wide legislative initiatives, and capital outlay priorities.
