The Tennessee Board of Regents today approved increases in tuition and fees that are among the lowest on average since 1996.

Tuition and fee rates will be considered during the Finance and Business Operations Committee meeting Thursday. The full Board will meet on Friday, when members will vote on the committee’s recommendations for tuition and fees.

The Tennessee Board of Regents today appointed new presidents at Chattanooga State Community College, Motlow State Community College in Moore County, and Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, and a new director for the Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology at Covington and Ripley.

Anthony G. Kinkel, current president of Wichita Area Technical College in Kansas, has been recommended by Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan as the next president to lead Motlow State Community College.

Pending approval by the Tennessee Board of Regents Wednesday, Tracy D. Hall is in line to become the next president at Southwest Tennessee Community College.

Flora Tydings is expected to be named the next president to lead Chattanooga State Community College pending approval by the Tennessee Board of Regents at a special called meeting on May 27.

The Tennessee Board of Regents will convene a special called meeting at 9:30 a.m. CDT May 27 to receive recommendations for presidential vacancies at community colleges and the director position at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Covington/Ripley. Scheduled to meet the same day will be the Audit Committee, Finance and Business Operations Committee, and Committee Chairs. All of the meetings are scheduled at the TBR System Office in Nashville.

In an effort to keep costs down and identify more efficient ways of operating, Tennessee Board of Regents colleges and universities have identified more than $15 million in recent savings, most of which has been reallocated to programs to support student services.

Tennessee Board of Regents colleges are improving success rates for students who come to campus requiring remedial support.

The Finance and Business Operations Committee of the Tennessee Board of Regents will meet via telephone at 1 p.m. CST on Thursday, Feb. 19, to discuss campus fee requests.
