Thomas A. H. White

Thomas "Tom" White was appointed by Governor Bill Haslam to the Tennessee Board of Regents on February 16, 2017, representing East Tennessee as an At-Large Representative and was reappointed for another six year term by Governor Bill Lee.

White is the former Senior Vice President, Investor Relations for Unum Group. He was responsible for investor relations and communications with rating agencies.  He was also responsible for assisting in setting the Company’s corporate philanthropy program.  

White is a 1980 graduate of The University of the South (Sewanee) and holds a Masters degree in Business from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management (1982).  He joined Provident (Unum’s predecessor company) in May 1982 as an associate financial analyst in the Investment Department.  In 1984, he was promoted to financial analyst and in 1986 to investment officer.  White was named assistant vice president, equities, in 1987 and corporate treasurer in 1989.  In 1994, he was promoted to Vice President, Corporate Relations.  In 2003, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Investor Relations.

White is a member of AIMR - Chartered Financial Analyst and NIRI - National Investor Relations Institute.  He also is involved with several civic organizations: the Lyndhurst Foundation, Chattanooga State Community College Foundation, United Way of Greater Chattanooga, Austin Hatcher Foundation, Montessori Elementary at Highland Plaza, and Treasurer - St. Paul's Episcopal Church. White is also an honorary board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga.
