Branding Academic Advising: A Renewed Focus on Advising-Creating a Culture of Success through Proactive Advising Experiences

Overview: Effective branding of academic advising is dependent upon several factors. This highly interactive session will focus on building an effective proactive advising program. As a result of attending this session, participants will:
- Understand how to implement effective proactive advising strategies
- Understand how strategic academic advising branding and collaboration will lead to college transformation for students, faculty, staff, and other institutional partners.
- Understand how to build customized plans to aid in the student success agenda.
- Additionally, participants will leave with tools to develop and implement a customized academic advising syllabus for their respective colleges.
Audience: The campus point of contact for the Proactive Advising Grant is required to attend.It is highly recommended that each TBR institution brings a team of (4) consisting of the following:
- Proactive Advising Grant Point of Contact
- Professional or Faculty Advisor (Contingent on campus advising structure)
- Faculty Member (New Students Programs, First Year Experience, etc...)
- Financial Aid, Admissions, Career Services Counseling Services, etc.
Registration Deadline: Friday, October 25, 2019
Travel Reimbursements: Teams should carpool together. TBR will reimburse mileage only for one vehicle per institution.

Consultant

Mr. Pipkins is the current chair and lead faculty consultant for the NACADA Summer Institute. He has a successful track record in leading efforts to develop comprehensive advising models and structures, branding, developing student learning outcomes and assessment plans for advising, first year experience programs, and proactive case management advising experiences. As an educator, Jermain continues to lead efforts that focus on faculty and staff collaboration while promoting student success.
Jermain received his A.S degree from El Centro College, B.A of Liberal Arts from The University of Texas at Arlington. He also has a Master of Science in Education with a specialization in leadership for higher education and is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education at the California State University, Fullerton.
