Bill Lee’s 2023 Rural Opportunity Summit this week, an annual conference he hosts to address the needs of at-risk and distressed counties across the state. The summit brings together local and state leaders to brainstorm innovative solutions to these communities' unique challenges.

This week, ahead of the upcoming Labor Day holiday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee visited three community colleges across the state to highlight key investments in career, technical and vocational education and reaffirm the administration’s commitment to workforce development.

 On Aug. 28, Dyersburg State Community College welcomed Governor Lee and First Lady Maria Lee as they toured its Nursing and Emergency Medical Services labs.

GIVE Grants to advance career & technical education

Governor Bill Lee today announced projects receiving funding through the second round of the Governor’s Investment in Vocational Education (GIVE) program, which prioritizes learning opportunities in rural counties and enhances career and technical education statewide. A total of $24,939,853 will help fund 27 programs and projects at 21 community and technical colleges in the College System of Tennessee, governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Gov. Lee and others break ground for McMinn Higher Education Center

Gov. Bill Lee and other state and local officials broke ground today for construction of the McMinn Higher Education Center in Athens, a collaborative facility that will house programs offered by Cleveland State Community College, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Athens, and UT Extension.

The $18 million, 52,000-square-foot center is expected to open for classes and training in 2021. It will also provide space for local industry training to upgrade the skills of the area’s workforce.

It's Spring Commencement season across the College System of Tennessee -- a major milestone in the lives of our students and their families, and the culmination of another academic year on our campuses.

Thousands of students will don their caps and gowns and other regalia to participate in the time-honored tradition of graduation, receiving the degrees they've worked and studied hard to earn. Many will continue their studies at universities, while many of their fellow graduates will launch their careers immediately.
