Nisha Powers

Nisha Powers was appointed by Governor Bill Lee to serve as the 9th congressional district representative. She is President of Powers Hill Design, LLC – a civil engineering firm that she established in 2005, located in Downtown Memphis. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) and has worked in the engineering community in Memphis since 1997.
Recognitions she has received include “Super Woman in Business” and “Top 40 Under 40” by the Memphis Business Journal, “Phenomenal Woman” by ABC 24 News, Engineering Power Player by the Memphis Business Quarterly for the past 10 years, and “Woman of Excellence” by the Tri-State Defender.
In service to the State of Tennessee, in 2020, Powers served on the Industry Working Group which was part of Governor Lee’s “Tennessee Pledge - Reopening Tennessee Responsibly” Plan. She was appointed to the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission by Governor Bill Haslam in 2011, was reappointed in 2016, and is currently serving as Chairman.
Powers local engagements include service on Sports Authority Corporation, Visible Music College, Women’s Business Council, Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM), to name a few. As Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for WFGM, she is fervent about Vision 2020 to reduce poverty in one of the poorest areas in the City of Memphis. She is also passionate about encouraging young girls to consider engineering as a career, and works closely with the University of Memphis, Girls Experiencing Engineering program.
Nisha is married to Craig Powers, who is also an engineering graduate from UTK, and they are proud parents of a seven year old son.
